Tropical Storm Bebeng – Aere – Before and After in Baloy

I went back and looked at some photos I took of Baloy in the past, and then compared them to the pictures I took yesterday and today. The differences are remarkable.

In these photos, look for the differences in the waterline and the huge reduction in the amount of usable beach that remains. The sand is simply gone – we’re talking about 3 – 4 feet of sand.

These two are of Baloy Beach, looking to the north from in front of Treasure Island, Johan’s Dive Resort and Kokomos Beach Resort:

Here’s the view at Treasure Island:

Again, this was snapped in February, 2010. Notice the sign at the right – you can see how much of the sign post is visible.

This was taken today, May 10th, 2011. Check out that sign – you can see the rusty, unpainted part that wasn’t visible in the first picture. Also, notice the tree stump and old tire that were uncovered by the erosion. Finally, notice the slope of the beach in this picture, and compare it to the first photo. Pretty amazing!

These are the Nipa huts that are just north of the Wild Orchid. These two are pretty self-explanatory. One point I want to make is that there is a tide difference here.

These two are in front of the Wild Orchid Resort’s Capt Rob’s Barefoot Bar. Notice the difference in the slope of the beach, the available beach space, and the little stairway on the left. In the first picture, the third step down is barely visible. In the second, you can easily see five steps.

Finally, at the other end of the beach, here is the Blue Rock Beach Resort. The view is totally different (sorry!), but you can still tell how vast a difference there is in usable beach area. Blue Rock really did have a nice beach!

Here is a small gallery of pictures I took today, showing some of the damage caused by this storm.
