Boracay Voted #2 Beach in the World

It’s about time! The Philippine Islands has the most beautiful, unspoiled beaches in the world, and it’s finally time that someone noticed.

The premier travel site, TripAdvisor.com, recently announced the Traveler’s Choice 2011 Best Beaches awards. Boracay took the Number 2 position just after Providenciales Island in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Boracay is a small island in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. It’s just off the northern tip of Panay Island in Aklan Province.

Boracay has always been regarded locally (in the Philippines) as the best beach destination. However, there are hundreds of gorgeous beaches in the Philippines that are known only to the local inhabitants. Commercialism hasn’t touched these beaches, and probably will not for quite a few years.

Boracay has all the amenities you would want, including everything from world-class hotels to small, intimate bed and breakfasts and hostels. Water sports reign as king, as you might expect, with a good number of dive shops and excursions, jet ski and boat rentals, and island hopping tours. The cheapest, easiest thing that everyone can do is rent snorkeling gear and appreciate the crystal clear blue and green waters of the several white sand beaches in Boracay. I’d recommend White Beach, Bulabog Beach and Puka Beach for a good start.
